God With Us

by George Edwards © 2001

“Unto us a Child is born,” the prophet wrote.
“And unto us a Son is given.”
For this God has done.
And great grace to us is shown.
For He did not leave us alone in our darkness.
He is moved by our tears.
And He is touched by our suffering.
He feels our need, and knows how weak we are.
And sees how much we need Him.
For this baby most beautiful is the great gift.
God become, not just a man, but Sacrifice for sin
and the bringer of great victory and abundant life.
He is the God Who would not leave us alone.
The Man Who would die in our place.
Immanuel: “God with us.”
Not just with us a little while, but with us
always, with goodness and grace following.
The God Who stands by our side.
Who loved us enough to do this for us.
He treasures us above all the works of His Hands.
And earnestly desires our hearts to dwell in.
And our lives as the place of His abode.
O let us praise the One who does these things!
And bless the Lamb of Christmas Day.
For He is our joy.
And the promise of good things to come.
Who came to give us back whatever we have lost.
To give us a future and a hope.
That which this baby was born to give,
And this man died to provide:
Salvation and freedom,
All for free.
